Consumer Alert-

According to other libraries in Illinois, patrons are being contacted by someone using local library names, claiming the patrons had fines, and they ask for credit card information over the phone. The Metropolis Public Library will not contact you about fines over the phone. Plus, the library does not have the capability of accepting credit cards at this time. If you are contacted, please call the Metropolis Police Department or the library. Local officers are aware that there are apps that can “spoof” local numbers, aka, the caller can be in some other country, but can use a local number to mask theirs, without that number ever knowing. If you have any question about your account or have been contacted, we will be happy to answer any questions.
